Q. The fruit fly has 8 chromosomes (2n) in each cell. During mnterphase of Mitosis if the number of chromosomes at G1 phase is 8, what would be the number of chromosomes after S phase? [NEET 2021, Biology]

(1) 32
(2) 8
(3) 16
(4) 4

Answer (2)

Solution: In S phase there is duplication of DNA. So amount of DNA increases but not the chromosome number. So, if the number of chromosomes at G1 phase is 8 in fruit fly then the number of chromosomes will be same in S phase that is 8 only.
